Crispy, Salty Chuao Chocolate (Product Review)

When I was exploring the boutique shops at my hotel last week, I was not disappointed to find this one.

I was drawn to the unusual varieties of the Chuao bars. After browsing the extensive selection, I chose this one.

While I don’t usually like nuts or dried fruit in my chocolate, the combination of dark chocolate, a bit of crispness and salt sounded like it could satisfy all sorts of cravings.

It was good, but it wasn’t spectacular, so the next day I went back for this one.

I expected it to be similar, but was enticed by the promise of milk chocolate (perhaps it would be smoother?) and kettle chips (which I love). I definitely liked it better. πŸ™‚

In case you think I am not dedicated to the pursuit of the finest chocolate, I paid $9 for each bar (including tax). I would only do that under the influence of a resort boutique shop!

Have you tried an unusual chocolate bar lately?

Have you bought something at a resort that you would never pay that price for at home?

I love love love me some salt. so there is that. and also? IM A SUCKER FOR ALL THINGS PRICELY WHEN I TRAVEL.
It’s bad—and good I travel so rarely—as my BUT IM WORTH IT! can get me into trouble.

I think it starts because some of my expenses are reimbursed (although I still wouldn’t pay $4.74 for a CUP of soda), but not the chocolate — unless I made a meal out of it! πŸ˜‰

  2. That looks interesting, potato chips in chocolate, would love to try one to break off from milk chocolates =)

  3. I’d probably pay $9 for a fancy chocolate bar while on vacation. But, I wouldn’t buy milk chocolate – no matter what the filling. πŸ™‚ I’m a dark chocolate all the way kind of person. I have loved the chocolate and sea salt combination many a time.

crispy textures in milk chocolate are THE BEST! I’d pay the high price for it. Plus it would make me feel all fancy ‘n stuff. Did you feel fancy???

  5. Ooooooo…both bars are calling my name! And I’d pay that price too πŸ™‚ Even at home LOL Thanks to a generous gift certificate I’ve been sampling Askinosie chocolate (ordered from its website).

  6. Chocolate is my downfall. I just had a Theo organic Dark Chocolate Toasted Coconut bar from Whole Foods. I’d totally recommend it. Delicious and I loved the fact that it split into 6 smaller bars. Not sure about chip though….hmmmm

  7. Sounds really good. I would love to try some. I wonder if it is available in Australia?

I think dark chocolate and potato chips sounds delicious. I bought a dark chocolate with bacon bar at World Market last winter. Can’t say I was a fan. I had a small piece, but it didn’t do anything for me. What a waste of two wonderful (separate) ingredients!

I'd love to know what you think!
